SMARTY Use Case Owners Series: Meet Continental
Launching our series on use case owners, we highlight Continental and their contributions to securing on-board electronics within the automotive sector.
Continental’s work within SMARTY highlights the critical role of cybersecurity in advanced automotive systems like Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). With secure on-board electronics, Continental protects these systems from unauthorized access, ensuring both vehicle safety and data integrity.
Through SMARTY’s collaborative innovation, Continental advances security in connected automotive systems by focusing on:
- Encrypted Communication & OTA Updates: Secure data channels and verified updates prevent tampering and unauthorized access.
- System Isolation & Hardware Security Modules (HSMs): By separating critical and non-critical functions, Continental’s solutions protect sensitive data and enhance overall system resilience.
- Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS): IDS monitors internal vehicle networks for anomalies or abnormal behaviours, identifying potential cybersecurity breaches by detecting unusual traffic patterns between sensors, ECUs, and other components.
Continental’s rigorous testing process, from simulated cyber threats to field trials, underscores a core SMARTY mission: implementing robust security across sectors where connected electronics are essential to operational safety and reliability.
Stay tuned as we explore more of the SMARTY project’s objectives and introduce additional use case owners.
